CBT Motorcycle Course For Novice Riders
If you're older than 17 years old A1 licences are available for those who are 17 and older. A1 license lets you remove your L plates, ride a scooter or small motorcycle and carry a pillion rider.

Compulsory Basic Training (CBT)
The CBT is a mandatory course for all riders who are new to the sport. It usually takes a whole day to complete. If you reach a satisfactory level at the end of the course your instructor will give you the DL196 certificate of successful completion.
In this course you will learn the basics of operating the motorcycle. You will be guided by a knowledgeable instructor throughout the day. In addition, you will be offered a short theoretical session that will instruct you about the highway code and the rules of the road as well as safe and safe lane positioning. Theory of Module 1 Test

After having passed Module 1, you will move on to the Module 2 test that is conducted on the road. Module 2 Practical Test
Once you've passed Module 1 and your theory test, you are now able to take the practical part of your motorcycle licence - Module 2. This test will award you an A1 license which allows you to ride bikes with a capacity of up to 125cc with a maximum power of 11 BHP. You can also carry passengers and ride on motorways.
The Mod 2 test is a practical riding test with approximately 10 minutes of free riding. The examiner will be following you on a predetermined road route with varying traffic and road conditions. The route will have busy intersections, roundabouts and dual carriageways and you'll need to be able to travel in various conditions.
Module 2 will test your ability to be observant, anticipate and navigate through busy roads. This is crucial because it allows you to make decisions on the fly when driving on the open road. You'll need to be able react quickly, for instance, you are driving down the road and spot cars moving into your path.
You'll also need to demonstrate good slow control for example, being capable of pulling away easily and stop confidently, as well as maintain speed. It's also important to demonstrate effective brakes and be able to make a smooth U-turn whenever needed.
You'll also be tested on how well you can signal and change gears. You will be asked to signal prior to overtaking another vehicle, or when leaving an intersection, and change gear when necessary.

Licensing
This course is ideal for those who already have completed their Module 1 & 2 completed and want to expand their riding skills and build a relationship with their bike. It usually involves more advanced exercises & training like looking through your turns and leaning to control your bike at higher speeds. It also covers hazard avoidance, high speed cornering, as well stopping and stopping at high speeds. The class will last for 6 hours on the roads with a Ride Coach, and you are able to choose your own bike for this course.

You must be at least 16 years of age to participate in the Basic RiderCourse (BRC). If you are not yet over 18 years old you must have a signature from a parent or guardian on both the Covid Release, Waiver and Indemnification forms (click here) and the Motorcycle Safety Program Parent/Guardian Agreement form. Your guardian or parent will also have to complete the MSF online course prior to attending your BRC course.
